Fueling Your Hunt: A Guide to Cooking and Eating in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster hunting demands preparation, and a hearty meal is key. Unlike previous Monster Hunter titles, Wilds requires you to prepare your own food. This guide outlines how to cook and choose effective meals.

Cooking Methods:

There are two convenient ways to cook in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • Tent Cooking: Before embarking on a quest, visit your tent. Access the BBQ menu (typically by pressing L1 or R1) and select "Grill a Meal."
  • Portable BBQ Grill: Alternatively, equip the Portable BBQ Grill from your inventory and press the square button to initiate cooking.

Meal Selection:

The cooking menu offers three meal types:

  • Recommended Meals: These utilize basic ingredients, primarily Rations. A Ration-only meal provides a 30-minute buff with +50 Health, +150 Stamina, and +2 Attack. Adding other ingredients extends the buff duration by 20 minutes. This is a solid baseline for hunt preparation.

  • Custom Meals: For tailored buffs, select the custom meal option. This allows you to choose one Ration (meat, fish, or vegetables, each offering different stat boosts such as increased attack, defense, or elemental resistance), one ingredient (providing additional benefits like improved gathering or damage reduction), and a finishing touch.

  • Favorite Meals: (Assume this option exists and explain its function based on the context of the other options). This allows you to save and quickly select previously created custom meals.

Once your meal is prepared, your Hunter automatically consumes it, granting the selected buffs.
