Civilization 7 Dev Firaxis Says 'There's Hope for Gandhi, Yet'
Civilization 7's release has left many veteran players questioning the absence of a familiar face: Mahatma Gandhi. A staple of the series since 1991, his omission is striking. However, according to Civilization 7 lead designer Ed Beach, Gandhi's absence is temporary.
Beach confirmed that Gandhi's inclusion is part of a longer-term DLC roadmap. He explained that Firaxis prioritizes a balance between iconic civilizations and introducing fresh, exciting options. This necessitates leaving some out of the base game. Similar situations occurred with Mongolia and Persia in previous installments. While Great Britain and Carthage are slated for release in March 2025 as part of The Crossroads of the World DLC, Beach assures players that Gandhi's return is a distinct possibility.
The current "mixed" user reviews on Steam, citing UI issues, limited map variety, and missing features, are also being addressed. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback but expressed confidence in the game's long-term success and the eventual acceptance by the core fanbase.
