CD Projekt Red: Ciri as the protagonist of The Witcher 4 is “organic and logical”
CD Projekt Red confirms Ciri will take center stage in The Witcher 4, a decision driven by both narrative progression and the rich potential of the character. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, making Ciri the logical successor. Her established depth and complexity in both the books and previous games offer exciting creative opportunities for the developers.
Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's younger age as a key factor, allowing for greater player agency in shaping her character arc – a freedom unavailable with the established Geralt. The shift, discussed internally for nearly a decade, underscores CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for Ciri as Geralt's heir. Kalemba promises a new saga with equally epic challenges and perspectives.
Veteran voice actor Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt, supports the change, emphasizing Ciri's considerable potential as a protagonist. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, ensuring a fresh narrative focus.
