Capcom's recent Spotlight and Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase unveiled exciting updates across its game lineup. Key announcements include new details for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a remastered Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, a Capcom Fighting Collection 2 release date, and much more, alongside a new story trailer and Open Beta 2 information for Monster Hunter Wilds.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword – A Deeper Dive
Targeted for a 2026 release, Onimusha: Way of the Sword prioritizes compelling characters, a fresh protagonist, and engaging enemies. The developers aim to faithfully recreate the Edo Period setting of Kyoto, incorporating real-world historical locations. The core gameplay focuses on delivering intense, satisfying sword combat. The protagonist, whose identity remains largely under wraps, will wield an Oni Gauntlet, fueled by the souls of vanquished Genma. While challenging, the game aims for accessibility across various skill levels.
Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny – Remastered for 2025
A remastered edition of the 2002 classic, Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, is slated for a 2025 release, bridging the gap until Onimusha: Way of the Sword's arrival.
Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta 2 – Arkveld Awaits
The second Open Beta for Monster Hunter Wilds introduces the flagship monster, Arkveld, in a challenging new quest. Also included are a Gypceros Hunt, an explorable training area, and online features like Private Lobbies and Online Single Player mode. Data from the first beta can be transferred. Returning elements include the Character Creator, Story Trial, and the Doshaguma hunt. Cross-play will be enabled.
Beta dates:
- Thursday, February 6th, 7 PM PT – Sunday, February 9th, 6:59 PM PT
- Thursday, February 13th, 7 PM PT – Sunday, February 16th, 6:59 PM PT
Character data transfers to the full game (February 28th release), but progress does not carry over. Participants receive a special Pendant.
Monster Hunter Wilds – Iceshard Cliffs and New Threats
The new story trailer showcased the frigid Iceshard Cliffs, home to new monsters: Rove (Wudwud), Hirabami (Leviathan), Nerscylla (Temnoceran), and the formidable Gore Magala. Further details on the flagship Arkveld were also revealed.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 – May 16th Release
Launching May 16th, 2025, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 features Capcom vs. SNK Millennium Fight 2000 Pro, Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, Power Stone, Power Stone 2, Project Justice, and Plasma Sword: Night of Bilstein.
Street Fighter 6 – Mai Arrives February 5th
Fatal Fury's Mai joins the Street Fighter 6 roster on February 5th, preceding only Elena in Year 2's character additions.
