New Call of Duty: Warzone Update Reportedly Causing Big Problems
The latest update for Call of Duty: Warzone has stirred up a mix of relief and frustration among its dedicated player base. Since its launch in 2020, Warzone has captivated millions as a standalone battle royale experience within the Call of Duty franchise. Its popularity soared during the global lockdown, and despite fierce competition and occasional controversies, it has retained a robust following thanks to its ongoing updates.
Warzone updates have always been a rollercoaster. From the divisive decision to retire the beloved Verdansk map to the integration of Black Ops 6 movement mechanics, each change has been met with a spectrum of reactions. On the positive side, the addition of Resurgence mode and new maps has been generally well-received by fans eager for fresh content.
The most recent update aimed to tackle some of Warzone's persistent bugs, notably the frustrating loading screen crashes. According to the patch notes, this update also fixed issues with bullet trajectory on the AMR Mod 4, resolved problems in Resurgence mode where dying out of bounds affected field upgrades and killstreaks, made ammo boxes, self revives, and throwing knives visible again, and corrected the absence of a death icon when dying to Red Light Green Light.
However, while these fixes were welcome, the update seems to have introduced new headaches. As reported by CharlieIntel on Twitter, players are now experiencing matchmaking issues, and the situation in Warzone's competitive Ranked Play mode has deteriorated. Players have found themselves stuck under the map, and Buy Stations are malfunctioning. These issues are particularly concerning for Ranked Play, where competitive integrity is paramount.
As of now, there's been no official word from Call of Duty's social media channels regarding these new problems, but it's likely that Activision is already working on a solution. Given the frequency of Warzone updates, players can expect a fix to be rolled out soon, hopefully alleviating the current frustrations.
Despite these setbacks, Warzone's future isn't all bleak. The game's player count on Steam has dipped amid competition from other multiplayer titles, issues with cheaters, and controversial moves like the premium Squid Game Battle Pass. Yet, resolving these technical hiccups and possibly bringing back the fan-favorite Verdansk map could spark a resurgence for this popular battle royale.
