Bandai Namco's decision to shutter Blue Protocol's Japanese servers in January 2025 has resulted in the cancellation of the anticipated global launch planned in partnership with Amazon Games. This article delves into the announcement and its implications.
Blue Protocol: Japan Server Shutdown and Global Release Cancellation
Player Compensation and Final Updates
Bandai Namco's official statement cites an inability to deliver a consistently satisfying player experience as the reason for the closure. The global release, a collaboration with Amazon Games, is consequently scrapped. The company expressed regret for the cancellation, acknowledging their failure to meet player expectations.
To compensate players, Bandai Namco will provide 5,000 Rose Orbs monthly (beginning September 2024) and 250 Rose Orbs daily until the game's end. Rose Orb purchases and refunds are discontinued. Furthermore, the Season 9 pass is now free, and the final update (Chapter 7) is slated for December 18, 2024.
The game's June 2023 Japanese launch initially saw over 200,000 concurrent players. However, early server issues and subsequent player attrition led to declining numbers and widespread dissatisfaction. The game's underperformance, previously hinted at in Bandai Namco's March 2024 financial report, ultimately fueled the decision to cease operations. Despite initial promise, Blue Protocol failed to meet financial projections and sustain its player base.
