"Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List"

Author : Zachary May 12,2025

Ubisoft's latest addition to the renowned stealth-action open-world series, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has finally hit the shelves. As fans dive into the adventures of Naoe and Yasuke in 16th-century Japan, the question arises: where does it stand among its predecessors? With over 30 games under the Assassin's Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR games, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to experience the life of his ancestor, Altaïr. Now, 18 years later, we find ourselves immersed in feudal Japan with the 14th installment of the core series. I've taken the liberty of ranking these mainline games in an IGN Tier List, based on my personal enjoyment. Check out my tier list below:

Simon Cardy's Assassin's Creed Tier List

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, nestled in the S-tier. Its blend of island exploration, ship combat, and vibrant characters creates what I believe to be the quintessential Assassin's Creed experience. Sharing the S-tier is Assassin's Creed 2, the game that truly launched the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, I've placed Valhalla, which might surprise some, but the Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame won me over. Alongside it sits Unity, whose stunning recreation of Paris during the French Revolution remains breathtaking even a decade later.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too bloated or believe Assassin's Creed 2 is overrated? Now's your chance to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community.
