2K Games Launches Groundbreaking Hero Shooter: ETHOS
2K Games and 31st Union's Project ETHOS: A Roguelike Hero Shooter Playtest
Project ETHOS, a free-to-play roguelike hero shooter, is currently undergoing a community playtest from October 17th to 21st. This innovative title blends the best elements of roguelike progression with fast-paced, third-person hero shooter mechanics.
Unique Gameplay Features:
Project ETHOS differentiates itself through its dynamic "Evolutions" system. Randomized Evolutions alter hero abilities mid-match, forcing players to adapt strategies on the fly. Transform a sniper into a close-quarters combatant or a support character into a solo powerhouse – the possibilities are endless.
Game Modes:
-
Trials: A signature mode where three-player teams battle human and AI opponents. Players collect Cores, strategically choosing when to extract and cash them in for progression and ability unlocks. Death means losing accumulated Cores, adding a significant risk-reward element. Matches can be joined in progress, offering a dynamic experience even when jumping in late.
-
Gauntlet: A traditional competitive PvP tournament mode. Players fight through brackets, upgrading their hero with each victory, culminating in a final showdown. Elimination means waiting for the next round.
Playtest Access:
The playtest is currently limited to players in the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy. Players can gain access by watching participating Twitch streams for 30 minutes to receive a playtest key or by registering on the official website for a chance to participate in future playtests.
Playtest Schedule:
- North America: October 17th (10 AM – 11 PM PT), October 18th-20th (11 AM – 11 PM PT)
- Europe: October 17th (6 PM – 1 AM GMT+1), October 18th-21st (1 PM – 1 AM GMT+1)
Developer Background:
Project ETHOS is 31st Union's debut title, led by Michael Condrey, a veteran of the Call of Duty franchise. His experience is evident in the game's design.
While a release date remains unannounced, Project ETHOS's unique blend of roguelike and hero shooter mechanics, combined with its community-focused marketing strategy, promises an exciting addition to the genre.
