F-Zero Climax, a Japan-Exclusive GBA Racing Game, Added to Switch Online + Expansion Pack
Two classic GBA racing games from the F-Zero franchise are speeding onto the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack!
F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend Join Switch Online
Launching October 11, 2024
Nintendo's announcement today brings exciting news for racing fans. The much-anticipated F-Zero: GP Legend and the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax will be available to Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers starting October 11th.
The F-Zero series, Nintendo's high-octane futuristic racing franchise, debuted in Japan over three decades ago (1990). Critically acclaimed, it's influenced other racing games, notably SEGA's Daytona USA. Known for pushing the boundaries of console technology in its time, F-Zero titles were renowned for their breakneck speeds on SNES and beyond.
Like Nintendo's Mario Kart, F-Zero challenges players to navigate treacherous tracks, outmaneuver opponents, and engage in intense machine-to-machine combat with their custom "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, even makes appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series.
Initially released in Japan in 2003, F-Zero: GP Legend saw a worldwide launch in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, remained a region-exclusive title until now. Its arrival marks the end of a 19-year hiatus for the series, following the release of the Switch's F-Zero 99 last year. In a past interview, F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura cited the immense popularity of Mario Kart as a contributing factor to the series' extended dormancy.
This October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack delivers both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend, offering players a chance to compete in Grand Prix, story modes, and various time trials.
