Digital Transformation of Devarattam

This application was developed as part of my initiative "Digital Transformation of Devarattam". It honors the legendary figures who have preserved this art form:

  • Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman (Retired Teacher)
  • Kalaimani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar
  • Kalaimani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti

These distinguished artists have received prestigious awards including the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR for their contributions to Devarattam. I dedicate this app to these cultural icons, along with my guru Mr. E. Rajakamulu and all the revered masters of Devarattam.

This digital platform aims to promote and preserve Devarattam while highlighting its award-winning practitioners. The app features comprehensive information about:

  • Biographies of all renowned Devarattam artists and award recipients

Devarattam: The Divine Dance

Devarattam is a traditional folk dance originating from Tamil Nadu. Historically performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community, this sacred dance form continues to thrive today.

The dance repertoire consists of:

  • 32 fundamental dance steps (core movements)
  • 40 additional variations (advanced expressions)

Performance Elements

Traditional Devarattam performances feature:

  • Dancers holding colorful kerchiefs in both hands
  • Salangai (ankle bells) worn on both legs
  • Accompaniment by the unique musical instrument Deva Thunthumi
