Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Spectre Divide's developers, Mountaintop Studios, have announced price reductions for in-game skins and bundles just hours after the online FPS game's launch, responding to significant player backlash over initial pricing.

30% SP Refund for Early Purchasers

Mountaintop Studios addressed player concerns regarding the high cost of in-game cosmetics. Game director Lee Horn announced a 17-25% price reduction across weapons and outfits. This decision follows widespread criticism of the game's pricing structure immediately after release.

"We've heard your feedback and are taking action," the studio stated. "Weapons and outfits will see permanent price decreases of 17-25%. Players who purchased items before this change will receive a 30% SP [in-game currency] refund." The high price of items like the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle (initially priced around $85 or 9,000 SP) fueled much of the negative player response.

Mountaintop Studios clarified that the 30% SP refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP, applies to purchases made before the price reduction. However, the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will remain at their original prices. The studio added that players who purchased the Founder's or Supporter packs and these additional items will receive the extra SP added to their accounts.

While some players welcomed the price adjustments, the response remains mixed, mirroring the game's current 49% negative rating on Steam. Negative reviews flooded Steam following the launch, resulting in "Mixed" overall reviews. Social media reactions were varied; one player on Twitter (X) commented, "Def not enough but it’s a start! And it’s great that you’re at least listening to players feedback," while another suggested allowing individual item purchases from bundles for increased revenue.

Conversely, some players expressed continued dissatisfaction. One fan criticized the timing of the price change, stating, "You needed to do that beforehand, not when people are upset about it. If you keep this up, I don’t think this game will last. You'll face stiff competition from other free-to-play games."
