Rainbow Six Siege X Closed Beta Test to Feature Dual Front, a New 6v6 Game Mode
Rainbow Six Siege X's Closed Beta is here, introducing its exciting new 6v6 game mode, Dual Front. Read on to learn more about Dual Front and the Closed Beta test.
Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase: Unveiling the Update
Closed Beta: March 13th - 19th, 2025
Ubisoft officially announced that the Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) Closed Beta will run from March 13th, 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET (immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase), to March 19th, 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET.
Players can gain access by watching the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or participating Twitch streams from select content creators to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta will feature the new Dual Front mode and be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Currently, some players are experiencing issues receiving the beta access code email. Ubisoft Support acknowledged this on Twitter (X) on March 14th and is working to resolve the problem.
It's crucial to remember that R6 Siege X isn't a new game, but a significant update enhancing Siege with graphical and technical improvements.
Dual Front: The New 6v6 Game Mode
Ubisoft introduced Dual Front, a dynamic 6v6 mode offering core gameplay upgrades (including visual enhancements, audio overhaul, rappel improvements, and more), revamped player protection systems, and free access to experience Rainbow Six Siege's tactical action.
This mode unfolds on a new map, District, where two teams of six Operators battle to control sectors. For the first time in R6, both attacking and defending Operators are active simultaneously, creating unique gadget combinations and tactical possibilities.
Classic Siege gameplay remains. Now called "Core Siege" in the main menu, it features five modernized maps (Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe) with double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and enhanced destructible materials. While only five maps are initially modernized, three more will be added per future season.
Free Access Arrives: Year 10, Season 2
After ten years, Rainbow Six Siege goes free-to-play, following the industry trend. In 2015, paid multiplayer games were the norm; the live-service model wasn't as prevalent.
Siege Game Director, Alexander Karpazis, speaking at the R6 Siege X Showcase in Atlanta, explained the decision to expand the player base: "We want people to invite their friends, and we want to give them the core game experience to showcase what makes Siege special. This lowers the barrier to entry; Siege shines when played with friends."
Free access includes Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front. However, Ranked mode and the Siege Cup remain exclusive to premium access holders. This decision, previously discussed in a 2020 interview with Leroy Athanassoff (then-game director), aims to counter smurfing and cheating, maintaining a balanced competitive environment. Karpazis believes this approach offers the best of both worlds—new player accessibility and a dedicated competitive space for veterans.
No Siege 2: A Different Path
Karpazis confirmed that a Siege 2 sequel was never considered. Unlike competitors like Overwatch 2 and Counter-Strike 2, Siege chose a different path, focusing on evolving the existing game.
He explained that the team prioritized what was best for Siege and its players. Siege X, in development for three years alongside ongoing seasonal updates, aims to ensure the game's continued success for another decade. Karpazis highlighted the community's crucial role in Siege's ten-year journey, emphasizing that the game's longevity is a testament to its dedicated player base.
Rainbow Six Siege X launches June 10th, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates, check out our Rainbow Six Siege article.
