Persona 4 Golden: How To Beat Magical Magus

Quick Links

Yukiko's Castle is the first major dungeon players will explore in Persona 4 Golden. Although it spans only seven floors, it serves as an excellent introduction to the game's mechanics and combat system, gradually increasing in difficulty.

The initial floors are relatively easy, but as you progress, you'll encounter the formidable Magical Magus, the strongest random enemy in the dungeon. Here's how to understand its affinities and defeat it effectively.

The Magical Magus is equipped with several skills that can inflict significant damage if you're not prepared. Its attacks primarily revolve around fire damage, so your best strategy is to equip fire-resistance accessories, which can be found in golden chests scattered throughout Yukiko's Castle. These accessories are also beneficial for the final boss fight, making them essential pickups.

When you notice the Magical Magus charging up its magic, prepare to guard on the next turn. It often unleashes Agilao, a powerful tier two fire spell that can knock out an unprepared party member. Additionally, Hysterical Slap can deal substantial physical damage with its double hit, though Agilao remains the more dangerous threat. At this stage, only the protagonist can acquire light skills, so it's advisable for Chie and Yosuke to focus on guarding to avoid being taken down.

Early-Game Persona With A Light Skill In Persona 4 Golden

The ideal early-game Persona with a light skill is Archangel, which naturally possesses Hama. Archangel also learns Media at level 12, a crucial skill for the boss fight on the final floor. As a level 11 Persona, Archangel can be fused using:

  • Slime (Level 2)
  • Forneus (Level 6)

In Persona 4 Golden, light and dark skills are instant-kill types, meaning Hama will instantly kill an enemy if it hits their weakness. This makes it highly effective, almost always hitting and instantly defeating the enemy, turning one of the dungeon's toughest foes into an easy target. With its high level, the Magical Magus becomes a great enemy to farm, provided you have items to restore your SP or are willing to enter the boss fight with reduced resources.
