Oblivion Remastered Mods Released Online
Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered does not feature official mod support. However, this hasn't deterred the dedicated fans, who have already begun releasing unofficial mods just hours after the game's shadow-drop for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
A handful of these community-created mods have quickly surfaced on the popular platform, Nexus Mods. These early mods, though mostly minor customizations, showcase the unwavering commitment of the The Elder Scrolls modding community. At the time of this article's publication, a surprising total of 22 mods are already available on the site. The first mod to be released allows PC players to personalize their desktop by replacing the default Oblivion Remastered shortcut icon with one of two images featuring the game's infamous Adoring Fan. Several mods enable players to skip the introductory Bethesda and Virtuos logo screens, while others, such as one that modifies the Wizard’s Fury spell and another that removes the compass, are beginning to offer gameplay customization options.
Despite Bethesda's usual encouragement of mod support in their games, they announced that Oblivion Remastered would not include official mod support. This was detailed in an FAQ section on their website, confirming that players would need to look elsewhere for mods.
Among the early modders, Nexus Mods user GodschildGaming released their Iron Longsword damage mod to demonstrate that modding is indeed possible with Oblivion Remastered. In the mod's description, they stated, "This is just to prove modding is possible. Bethesda says no mod support, I say false. It really is Unreal slapped on top of Oblivion, the data folder is nested in a lot more folders but same concept."
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered launched today, marking 19 years since the original game's release. As more players engage with the remastered version in the coming weeks and months, the number of available mods is expected to grow, offering increasingly unique ways to customize the game experience. While awaiting more mod releases, you can delve into why some players believe today's release is more of a remake than a remaster and the reasoning behind Bethesda's choice to label it as "Remastered."
